Dr. P. Aruna, B.A., B.Ed., M.Sc. (Psychology), B.Ed. (Special Education in Intellectual Disability), is the founder of the Aruna Learning Center and Arunalayam Educational Trust. With over 10 years of experience in Special Education and Autism treatment, she is a Child Psychologist, Academic Trainer, and Child, Marriage & Family Counsellor.
Dr. Aruna Muthukumar was born on July 20, 1983, in Mana Madurai, Madurai. She hails from a middle-class family and spent her childhood in a village. She completed her schooling in Tamil medium at a government school. Despite financial challenges, she pursued her undergraduate studies in Tamil Literature (B.Ed.), working part-time during college to fund her education.
In 2005, after her graduation, she got married and moved to Coimbatore with her husband, Mr. Muthukumar. By 2007, she had two children and was simultaneously running a beauty parlour.
Driven by her passion for working with children, especially those with special needs, Dr. Aruna decided to pursue higher education. She enrolled in M.Sc. (Psychology) and B.Ed. (Special Education) programs. Balancing the demands of being a mother of two, managing a beauty parlour, and earning money for her studies was challenging. However, she successfully completed her higher education and began working as a special education teacher in a private school in Coimbatore. She spent five years in this role.
Dr. Aruna Muthukumar's main dream was to establish her own learning center for children with special needs and to support the underprivileged through an NGO. She took steps to achieve these dreams, first by founding the Aruna Learning Center and then by establishing the Arunalayam Educational Trust.
